Albert Hoffman at Andrew Edlin Gallery
In another story of discovery and recognition, the work of New Jersey-based artist Albert Hoffman takes the helm. Serving in the Navy during World War II, Hoffman returned and settled down near Atlantic City, opening a successful junkyard and continuing his childhood habit of scene-carving. Although he was never formally trained, the prolific carver produced a range of detailed depictions of Biblical stories, Jewish folk tales, and iconic images of Americana.
In 1988, acclaimed artist and filmmaker Herbert Danska came across Hoffmans work in a small boardwalk museum in Atlantic City and was so instantly impressed, he took it upon himself to share the older man's skill with the world.
