Martin Creed at Hauser & Wirth and Gavin Brown‘s enterprise

An exhibition at two venues, Martin Creed represents a retrospective of the artist's work over the past three decades, containing both new and old pieces that display his innate ability to curate the commonplace until it becomes something new (and magical). In addition to installations which make use of materials like masking tape and balloons, two new portrait series will be unveiled. But these aren't your normal paintings: for one series, Creed attached his cardstock high on a wall and continued to jump up with his brush until the image was complete, and for the other, he stared only at his subject, "blindly," never looking down at his canvas. If there's one thing we've learned from this show, it's that Martin Creed is never boring.
