Despite the sprawling Strand bookstore right down the street, this tiny used bookshop continues to hold its own. Alabaster has a colorful collection of trade paperbacks, many marked down to half price, with a selection that’s heavy on contemporary and postmodern authors. Faded carpets and first-edition books displayed as art give a quirky, vintage feel to the interior. Be sure to browse through the carts on the sidewalk, where you can snag classics and newer novels for just $2.
