Rent a bike or grab your own and take a ride through South Brooklyn's Coney Island and Brighton Beach all the way east toward Rockaway Beach. Right before the toll bridge there's a beaten path that leads to Dead Horse Bay, where a 100-year-old landfill is leaking. Wait, it's not as gross as it sounds. You will stumble upon colorful glass and ceramics, old shoes, and even horse bones from the early 20th, late 19th century. Wear sturdy shoes and explore; you can bring home bits of broken colorful glass, bleach it overnight, and glue it to large pieces of wood to showcase in your apartment. Don't forget to bring gloves and little sense of adventure!
