Neighborhood Classics at PS 321 launches with Canyengue: the Soul of Tango

The Neighborhood Classics series was founded by pianist Simone Dinnerstein in 2009, in an effort to build a musical dialogue at a local level between neighborhoods and musicians. These one-hour, family-friendly performances are open to the public. The musicians donate their performances, and all profits benefit the students of PS 321. The series launches with Canyengue: the Soul of Tango, which brings together Latin Grammy-winning pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler, considered to be ’the outstanding representative of the nuevo tango in his generation’ (Stereo Review) and Maya Beiser, described by the The New Yorker as a ’cello goddess.’ In this concert, they will explore the nature of ’canyengue’, the true soul of Buenos Aires tango.
