Seaport Museum New York presents the debut of Alfred Stieglitz New York accompanied by the premier of groundbreaking documentary - Everybody Street - by noted filmmaker Cheryl Dunn. Stieglitz - a central figure in the history of photography and modern art and husband of artist Georgia O’Keeffe - lived in New York City for most of his life and chronicled its dramatic transformation into the archetypal metropolis of soaring skyscrapers, subways and electric lights. These works have not been displayed together since 1932, when Stieglitz featured them at his own gallery, An American Place.
As part of Alfred Stieglitz New York, noted filmmaker and photographer Cheryl Dunn pays tribute to Stieglitz’s heritage through "Everybody Street", a unique and groundbreaking film that delivers an intimate portrait of some of the most important New York photographers to emerge since the 1930’s. Her cinematic compilation includes interviews, photographs, and candid footage of the artists, exploring their lifelong dedication to New York as their photographic subject. From the poignant, charged images of Bruce Davidson, Rebecca Lepkoff, and Bruce Gilden to the celebratory photojournalism of hip hop historian Martha Cooper, Ricky Powell, and Jamel Shabazz, to the historically significant 911 images of award-winning photographer Joel Meyerowitz, Dunn’s film documents a range of shooters with the same passion for New York. The launch event will feature a screening of "Everybody Street."
