Description
Art in General's annual Spring Benefit brings together more than 200 art collectors, patrons and art enthusiasts to celebrate the organization's programming and history and raise funds to support its commissions, residencies and educational programs. This year's event will be held at the Stephan Weiss Studio on April 28, 2011, will be Co-chaired by artists Allora & Calzadilla and will feature an exciting art project, entitled ”˜DoubleBlind'. DoubleBlind takes the idea of a blind experiment, in which participants on both sides are prevented from knowing certain information. For the project, 10 nominators have selected 10 artists to take a single roll of film that will be auctioned at the event without being developed. Like a time capsule, or a secret diary, the images on each roll of film will ultimately represent the nominee's unique perspective, one that can only be shared with the patrons who place the winning bid. Nominators include Tanya Bonakdar, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery; Dan Cameron, Founder and Artistic Director, U.S. Art Biennial; Alan Cumming, actor; Peter Eleey, Chief Curator, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center; Janice Guy, Murray Guy Gallery; Jens Hoffmann, Director, Wattis Institute of Contemporary Art; Sean Kelly, Sean Kelly Gallery; Joel Meyer, Associate Producer, ABC Family; Yasmil Raymond, Curator, Dia Arts Foundation; and Spencer Sweeney, artist. Participating artists include Jeremy Deller, Shannon Ebner, actor Scott Foley, Tim Lee, Matt Mullican, Shirin Neshat, David Remfry, Ted Riederer, Thomas Scheibitz, and musician Andrew W.K.
