Math Encounters: "Symmetry, Art, & Illusion - Amazing Symmetrical Patterns in Music, Art, Drawing, & Dance"

World famous author and artist Scott Kim will unravel the mystery of puzzles and patterns as they appear in art, music, dance, and animation during Math Encounters series, "Symmetry, Art, & Illusion: Amazing Symmetrical Patterns in Music, Drawing, & Dance." The audience will participate in a hands-on workshop where they will learn to draw their own symmetrical ambigram and play with symmetrical rhythmic patterns. Kim will be introduced by Vi Hart, a math wunderkind whose YouTube series ’Doodling in Math Class’ has generated more than a million views. Math Encounters, a new public presentation series dedicated to showcasing the beauty, creativity, and real world applications of mathematics, is being presented by the Museum of Mathematics and the Simons Foundation. The Museum of Mathematics will open in NYC in 2012 and will boast dynamic exhibits and programs that will stimulate inquiry, spark curiosity, and reveal the wonders of math.
