Description
WHAT: In 2011, the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), a non-profit organization serving artists at critical stages in their creative lives, will celebrate our 40th Anniversary. To commemorate this momentous occasion, we will launch the “NYFA Hall of Fame” during our annual benefit at the Prince George Ballroom on Tuesday, April 26. During the event we will be honoring: filmmaker, Todd Haynes, whose HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce aired in March; patron of the arts, Kathleen O’Grady; Editor-in-Chief of Dance Magazine, Wendy Perron; and critically acclaimed photographer, Andres Serrano. This promises to be an exciting night, as we expect over 300 artist, advocates, and patrons of the arts to be in attendance. The evening starts with cocktails in the gallery at the Prince George with musical accompaniment by Combo Novo, a unique contemporary jazz ensemble, followed by an elegant seated dinner in the ballroom, with cuisine provided by Abigail Kirsch Catering. After the presentation of awards, guests will enjoy the musical stylings of Suzzy Roche, of the famed band, The Roches. WHY: The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) was founded in 1971 to empower artists at critical stages in their creative lives. Each year we provide over $1 million in cash grants to individuals and small organizations. Our fiscal sponsorship program is the largest and most established in the country and helps artists and organizations raise and manage over $5 million annually. Our NYFA Learning programs provide thousands of artists with professional development training and our website, NYFA.org, received over 4.4 million unique visits last year and has information about more than 8,000 opportunities and resources available to artists in all disciplines.
