| Description |
The Hijabi Monologues, a revealing collection of stories about the experiences of American Muslim women by playwright Sahar Ishtiaque Ullah, will be performed, for the first time in New York City, by a John Jay College cast of American Muslim and non-Muslim students.
The Hijabi Monologues takes something public, the hijab or headscarf, and offers the audience a lens through which to view assumptions about American Muslim women and Islam. The stories cover a range of experiences from traumatic security searches to the awkward and sometimes hilarious responses of men who try to approach these women.
This event is part of a new campus-wide thematic initiative, ’Mosques, Veils, and Madrassas: Muslims and Institutions of Justice in Pluralistic Societies."
