An Evening with Joel M. Reed (Double Header)

**5-8PM & 9-12AM Shows** It's hardly surprising Joel M. Reed's name still remains a relevant and often inflammatory element in underground film history nearly 30 years after his last film was released. Born in New York in the early 30's Mr. Reed's work has been the subject of controversy for decades. His uncensored and often disturbing looks at the extreme obsessions of human appetites has been a source of inspiration for many Grindcore fans and filmmakers and has garnered the admiration of Oliver Stone among others. Despite the nearly overwhelming prominence of cult films today, Joel remains an important figure in the creation of this genre at a time when the material was under direct attack by activist and censorship elements. His most infamous film, "Blood Sucking Freaks", based off of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ "Wizard of Gore" follows the demented dealings of Sardu the Magician as he subjects kidnapped woman to S&M/Grand Guignol style performances on stage. Considered one of the most controversial films of all time by AMC's filmsite.org Mr. Reed's abilities to push boundaries and execute a film that speaks to both the horrific and the humorous remains his defining specialty. Mr. Reed will be appearing at 17 Frost St in Brooklyn NY on January 22nd. There will be a double screening of his film "Bloodsucking Freaks" (at 5pm and 9pm) along with 2 talk and Q&A's with Mr. Reed.
