New York's Talea Ensemble meets France's Ensemble Linea in an evening of cultural friendship and world premieres
June 4th concert at Rose Studio in Lincoln Center is Ensemble Linea's North American debut
Talea Ensemble, renowned for their adventurous programming and contemporary music performances have invited the French group Ensemble Linea to perform a
joint concert in New York City. The performance is on June 4 at 8 pm at the Rose Studio at Lincoln Center.
The two music groups live an ocean apart, but their approach to programming and music-making is similar. It is that similarity that brought the ensembles
together when they first met in Europe in 2009. "We found our ideals and philosophies to be alike, and thought immediately that we should find a way to collaborate,"
says Ensemble Linea's artistic director, Jean-Philippe Wurtz.
The French American Cultural Exchange (FACE), an arts council devoted to supporting French-American cultural projects, made Ensemble Linea's US visit possible.
The program features Talea's world premiere performance of a work by the American composer Sean Shepherd commissioned by Talea Ensemble. Works by two French
composers have been commissioned by Ensemble Linea for the occasion: Florent Motsch's Al margen de las margenes (At the margin of the Margins) and Frédéric Durieux :
Frontales (Frontal) will be performed by a combination of personnel from each of the ensembles. Linea's featured composer, Brian Pauset, will have the US premiere of
his 2007 composition, quatre variations (Four Variations). Complete program details are at the end of this press release.
Talea Ensemble and Ensemble Linea perform Saturday, June 4 at 8 pm at the Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio at Lincoln Center. Rose Studio is located on the 10th floor
of the Rose Building at 65th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in New York City. Tickets are $15 ($10 for students and seniors). Tickets can be purchased at the door,
and may be reserved by email at talea@taleaensemble.org. More information about Ensembles Talea and Linea are at www.taleaensemble.org and www.ensemble-linea.com.
