Renée Fleming and Naeem Khan highlight Asia Society Celebration of Asia Week Benefit Marking the Opening of Asia Week New YorkMonday, March 21, 2011583 Park Avenue at East 63rd StReception: 6pm - 8pm; Dinner & Dance 8pm -11pmAsia Society kicks off Asia Week New York with an exciting and festive signature gala benefit, Celebration of Asia Week New York, now in its third year. Honorary Chairs for the event are Renée Fleming, one of the most beloved and celebrated musical ambassadors of our time, and the extraordinary designer Naeem Khan. Asia Week New York, March 18-26, is a collaboration of museums, galleries, auction houses, and Asian art specialists and enthusiasts hosting exhibitions, previews and special programs throughout the city for a discerning clientele from around the world. The Celebration of Asia Week Benefit evening opens with a Silk Road-themed cocktail reception, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., followed by a dinner featuring the unique flavors of northern India created by acclaimed Chef Hemant Mathur of Devi fame (and the just opened Tulsi). His wife and Executive Pastry Chef Surbhi Sahni will oversee dessert. Table top décor will be customized by a number of leading fashion designers including Waris Ahluwalia and Julian Lwin, Rachel Cho, Doo-Ri Chung, John Hardy, Gemma Kahng, Naeem Khan, Soigne Kothari, Rosena Sammi, Misha Shivdasani, Anita Trehan, and Kathy Wilson. Dinner will be followed by dancing and live music performed by Valerie Romanoffs Starlight Orchestra. An auction of luxury experiences and products, including a Taj Palaces of India trip and a gown by Naeem Khan will be presided over by Henry Howard-Sneyd of Sothebys.Attire for the event is Asian Chic or Festive National Dress.
