Dia:Beacon is the home for Dia Art Foundation’s renowned collection of art from the 1960s to the present by a focused group of artists including Louise Bourgeois, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, On Kawara, Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Robert Ryman, Richard Serra, Robert Smithson and Lawrence Weiner. Major installations of works by these artists will be on view, as will the special exhibition "Franz Erhard Walther: Work as Action," featuring the visitor-activated 1. Werksatz (First Work Set) from Dia’s collection, shown in its entirety for the first time in the U.S. since 1970.
At the Benefit, Dia also proudly presents a special performance of MoonRain (2010) by the pioneering multimedia installation and performance artist Robert Whitman. Referencing a famous collection of 18th century Japanese ghost stories by Uedia Akinari, the work will be set inside a fog environment designed by artist Fujiko Nakaya and staged in the museum's Lower Level Galleries.
