Jill Platner Sculpture Exhibition Opening Reception

On May 4th, Manhattan-based jewelry designer and artist, Jill Platner, will debut her large-scale metal sculptures at a pop-up gallery exhibition, which will run throughout the month of May. Eleven works ranging in size from four feet to over ten feet tall will be shown and available for sale. Jill has been working round the clock for the past six months to complete the collection, but the full scope of the work has taken her over 15 years to fully realize. She says, ’I’ve been dying to do this for such a long time… but it’s not been until now that I’ve been able to put aside everything else and focus intently on the sculptures’. Jewelry design has enabled Platner to work out basic concepts in miniature, but each sculpture is an exercise is engineering that can only be done by jumping into the process in full-scale. Balance and weight is key in the design; and movement and interaction are important to the final presentation. The sculptural forms are inspired by nature with movement, mechanics and material playing key roles in Platner’s process. Of the ’sculpture forest’ that will fill the gallery space, Platner says, ’The work is meant to be touched and moved. I love the interaction that one can have with a sculptural piece’.
