The Spin Doctor, Rony Seikaly, has a birthday coming up, and he has chosen to celebrate it behind the decks with his friends and fans. Come be a part of the celebration at LAVO New York on Saturday, May 14th.
As an avid student of melody, Rony has always been a music fan of all genres. Through out his NBA career Rony never let go of his passion for house music; it was only a matter of time until he became immersed in the world of DJing. Soon after Rony began playing out, he garnered the attention of legends Pete Tong, Erick Morillo & Behrouz, to the point where Pete himself called Rony the "most underrated DJ" in a recent DJ Mag interview.
Growing up on everything from the Police to Genesis to KISS to classical composers, Rony has developed an eclectic, upbeat sound dubbed "Rony Style" by his label-mate and friend Erick Morillo. Grooving in the booth has extended Seikaly's musical involvement to original productions; the first of these, "Come With Me" and "Mila's Theme," with lyrics by Seikaly, are coming out this summer on Subliminal Records. The label now is scheduling releases from Rony every four to five weeks in the foreseeable future. With other imprints like Nervous Records and Star 69 lining up as well.
"[Seikaly] is a raw talent with a great musical ear," says Morillo. "That's why I'm excited to put out his first single on Subliminal and unleash him on the world." Says Seikaly, "I don’t want to earn this because of the past. I would like to be expressive, but under the radar, making waves, but not stepping on anybody’s toes. I want to earn this because of my music."
