His Excellency, Ambassador Gérard Araud, Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations will be hosting The Young Patrons Circle of American Friends of the Louvre’s annual benefit, Soirée au Louvre, at his Park Avenue residence on Thursday, May 12th, 2011. The Louvre has recently launched a bold and ambitious contemporary art program, which invites reputable artists to showcase their vision of the Museum’s collections, and Soirée au Louvre will screen the most recent venture of this platform by photographer Nan Goldin, entitled Scopophilia. Previous contemporary art projects include Mike Kelley’s Green Depths, Richard Serra’sClara-Clara, Jenny Holzer’s Xenon for Paris, Willem de Kooning’s Standing Figure, and CyTwombly’s The Ceiling. The galleries, Auditorium and Tuileries Gardens of the Louvre have thus become the stage for new works of art, film, photography, music and dance, and the royal palace has, in certain areas, been permanently decorated by these living artists.
The Soirée au Louvre benefit will be sponsored by Cynthia Rowley, Bernardaud, Guerlain, and GREY GOOSE© Vodka, with additional support by Assouline, Baccarat, Gagosian, Kusmi Tea, and Lillet.
