Description
Rebecca Association of Autism presents their annual Book Fair Fundraiser at Barnes and Noble - Upper East Side (150 E. 86th St., NYC) on November 20th. The RAA has invited special guest speaker, Dr. Gil Tippy, co-author of Respecting Autism to read from Respecting Autism at 4 PM. The Rebecca Association for Autism or RAA is a registered 501c3 charitable organization that raises funds so that they may create and provide a variety of programs and relief to the families whose children attend the Rebecca School. Through our fund raising efforts we continue to help the families whose children have neurodevelopmental delays in relating and communicating, including autism. For more information, visit http://www.RebeccaSchool.org. Respecting Autism introduces readers to sixteen students and their personal stories presented as case studies. In each of these very different studies, co-author Dr. Gil Tippy takes a thorough and thoughtful approach to introducing readers to these individuals; he first establishes their family’s story and educational background, then provides specifics regarding the students’ work as well as behavior at school. Each case study concludes with co-author Dr. Stanley Greenspan’s diagnosis, reflections, and plan regarding how best to proceed to bring the student fully into the circle of communication. About Rebecca School: Rebecca School is a therapeutic day school for children ages 4 to 21, promoting the education and development of children with neurodevelopmental disorders of relating and communicating, including PDD and autism. Rebecca School utilizes the Developmental Individual Differences Relationship-based (DIR®) model. The DIR® Methodology developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan, proceeds from the core belief that relationships are the foundation of learning. At Rebecca School, we consider the variations in individual motor and sensory processing systems and tailor each child’s program to his or her specific needs. There is no ’one-size-fits-all’ for children with neurodevelopmental delays in relating and communicating. Each child has unique strengths to be developed and limitations to be remediated. Rebecca School’s goal is not to fit the child to the program but to fit the program to the child.
