The ALS Association Greater New York Chapter will hold their 17th Annual Lou Gehrig Sports Awards Benefit on Tuesday, November 8th at 6:30PM at the New York Marriott Marquis (Broadway at 45th Street). Cocktails and silent auction begin at 6:30PM, followed by dinner and an awards presentation.
Honorees receiving the Lou Gehrig Sports Award will be former president of HBO Sports Ross Greenberg, record-breaking high school basketball coach Bob Hurley, Sr., former New York Ranger and U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member Mike Richter, former New York Yankees manager and current Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations for MLB Joe Torre, and New York Mets great David Wright.
The Jacob K. Javits Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Ride for Life founder and ALS activist Christopher Pendergast by New York Yankees great David Cone. TV sports announcers Bob Costas and Jeremy Schaap will also present during the program.
As one of The ALS Association's leading chapters, the Greater New York Chapter encompasses New York City, Long Island, Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, and Northern & Central New Jersey and plays a major role in promoting the mission to lead the fight to cure and treat ALS. The ALS Association is the only national non-profit health organization dedicated solely to fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease on every front. The Association leads the way in research, patient and community services, public education, and advocacy — providing help and hope to those facing the disease. ALSA is a member of the National Health Council.
