On Saturday, November 12th, 2011, the New Yorker Promotion Department will host its seventh annual Passport to the Arts. This perennially popular event offers a curated look at the art scene in SoHo and Chelsea, and features a self-guided tour of leading galleries, a private gala cocktail party, and a silent auction benefitting the CUE Art Foundation. Tickets are $49 and are available for purchase at www.ticketweb.com.
On Saturday, November 12th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., participants will pick up a program guide, a map, and an official passport at Passport to the Arts headquarters, located at the Animazing Gallery, 54 Greene Street (at Broome Street). At each gallery on the self-guided tour, passports will be stamped with a replica of a featured work of art by established and emerging artists. After the tour, participants are invited to a cocktail reception featuring a silent auction of twenty-four artworks. Artists featured on the stamps and in the auction include Kirk Reinert, Yann Gross, Ellen Kuras, Sarah Canright, Karen Knorr, Kelly Heaton, Allison Schulnik, and more. The reception will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hudson Studios (601 West 26th Street, 13th Floor).
Galleries on the tour include Andrew Edlin Gallery, Animazing Gallery, Aperture Foundation, Betty Cuningham Gallery, ClampArt, CUE Art Foundation, D'Amelio Terras, Danziger Gallery, David Zwirner, Derek Eller Gallery, Jack Shainman Gallery, James Cohan Gallery, Mixed Greens, Monya Rowe Gallery, Peter Blum Gallery, Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Susan Inglett Gallery, Zach Feuer Gallery, and ZieherSmith.
All funds raised by the silent auction and a portion of the proceeds of ticket sales will benefit the CUE Art Foundation, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to promoting culture by supporting the creativity of under-recognized visual artists, and by offering comprehensive arts education programs for artists and students. The CUE Art Foundation has served over 7,500 artists and 1,500 middle- and high-school students since its founding eight years ago.
