You are invited to Opening Night of the 170th New York Philharmonic concert season, on Wednesday, September 21, 2011.
This celebratory evening, marks the beginning of Alan Gilbert’s third season as Music Director, and comprises Barber’s compositions The School for Scandal Overture and Andromache's Farewell, for Soprano and Orchestra; Wagner’s “Dich, teure Halle” from Tannhäuser, as well as the Overture from the same opera; and R. Strauss’s Intermezzo, Dance, and Final Scene from Salome, featuring soprano Deborah Voigt — each piece for orchestra alone will alternate with a selection for soprano and orchestra.
