Anne Hathaway Is Harvard's Hasty Pudding Woman Of The Year

Jan 29, 2010 11:22 AM

Anne Hathaway was paraded through Harvard Square yesterday when she was honored as Hasty Pudding' Theatrical's 2010 "Woman Of The Year". Snow and cold weather didn't stop scores of fans from seeing the good-natured actress hang out with Harvard's most eccentric demographic. Apparently, Hathaway kept blowing kisses to excited Harvard boys, the flirt.-

In order to receive the illustrious "pot", Hathaway had to slay someone dressed as a dragon and prove that she can sing. (She can: the soprano did her own singing in "Ella Enchanted" and has frequently performed Sondheim, and sang a duet with Hugh Jackman at the 2009 Oscars).

Hathaway wrote a poem as an acceptance speech:

Please accept my heartfelt thanks and amazement
That you have chosen my few humble offerings as celebrated entertainment.
I will stand tall as I stand on this list
Of Hasty Pudding Honorees--you get the gist.
Let us proceed with this day full of cheer-thank you for making me your Hasty Pudding this year."

So, her meter is a little off, but the sentiment is heartfelt. Anne spent the beginning part of the week in Paris for Fashion Week, where she attended the Armani show.

Previous Hasty Pudding "Woman Of The Year" recipients include Katherine Hepburn and Meryl Streep.
