Daily Style Phile: Fashion's New IT Girl Vanessa Traina

by SARAH JAFFE · March 25, 2011

Having interned at French Vogue, assisted stylist Marie-Amélie Sauvé, and modeled, Vanessa Traina has developed a keen understanding of fashion.  The fashion editor for T Magazine and brand ambassador for Chanel, she's delved into the world of design to become fashion latest 'It Girl."

Vanessa grew up in San Francisco, but has traveled all over the world for fashion shows and other glamorous events since she can remember.  She is the daughter of famous romance novelist Danielle Steel and ex- husband John Traina. Although she and her sister, Victoria, are the two normally discussed, Vanessa actually has a total of four sisters!

Luckily for Vanessa and Victoria, paparazzi have not been riding their tails like some other young, high-profile socialites, namely the Hilton sisters. The Bay area's calmer nature allowed them a foot loose and fancy free youth.

Vanessa is said to be a large influence behind the scenes for some of New York’s most influential designers.

Last night Vanessa launched her first collaboration with French label Maje at Barney's, after appearing in many of the brand's ad campaigns. The collection is comprised of 24 pieces done in mostly black with small details of white and decorative lace trims.

"This particular collection was really supposed to be about me, so I really put myself into the clothes and created pieces that I felt described me and my style. Close friends of mine who have seen the collection say that they really see me in it which I take as a compliment because I put a lot of myself into it. I draw inspiration from everywhere- just what's made me and my style over the last few years." Vanessa explained to Racked.
