Football Career

Football Career
Michael comes from a long line of athletes. His father, Gene, was a boxer with a 1-1 record against future heavyweight Ken Norton, and his Uncle, Art, was a pro football player. Michael didn't start playing football until his senior year in high school, when he moved to Houston to live with his Uncle Art. Following in his Uncle's footsteps, Michael went on to play defensive end at Texas Southern University. After graduating, Michael was drafted in the second round by the New York Giants. In the 2001 season, Michael set the NFL record for sacks in a single season, and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In his 15th and final season, his team went on to win the Super Bowl, defeating the New England Patriots. There was much hype around Michael last month, as he had a good chance of being elected to the Hall of Fame. This was his first year of eligibility, and unfortunately, he failed to be voted in this time around. [Photo via, via]
