Gold Medal Olympians

Gold Medal Olympians
To close out the ceremony, the Gold Medal Olympians from the 2012 Summer Olympics took the stage. For the first time ever, women competed in all of the same 36 sports as men, and there were more women athletes on the U.S. team than men. For the U.S. team, the women brought back more medals and five of the gold-medal Olympians were honored last night. The night was full of unsuspecting moments, and Kayla Harrison's story was one that shocked the crowd. Her career was almost derailed when her judo coach sexually abused her until the age of 15. Kayla, who is now 22, won the first gold medal in judo for the United States at the London Olympics this year. She shared her remarkable journey, recovering from the abuse, putting her former coach behind bars, and overcoming a painful past to win the gold.
