Gitana Rosa Presents OIL SLICK

On Saturday, Bogart Street Studios hosted OIL SLICK, a benefit for environmental recovery undertaken by the Gitana Rosa Gallery.  Never have hipsters, bohemians, and polo-shirt enthusiasts come together so peacefully for a non-sadistic cause.

OIL SLICK is a response to the devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that is now the largest offshore spill in American history. The benefit was headed by a number of artists attempting to raise awareness of and funds for recovery of the regions affected by the oil spill through their work. The artists, who use oil painting as their medium, have agreed to donate 35% of their profit to the Nature Conservancy's "Fund For Gulf Coast Restoration." The organization has remained active in marine and wildlife relief, as well as environmental restoration along the affected areas.

The exhibit remains open until June 13th. The abundance of dreadlocks, chest hair, and nipples remain a perk only for those who managed to attend the gallery's opening.
