11. Mr. Downtown, Taavo Somer covers NYTimes Style section. Primarily known as one of the city's top restaurateurs, he's designed his culinary fixtures from the ground up. Since stating he's over New York, the Times got to profile Somer and asked the ever-important question: What's next for Mr. Somer? Isa, his most personal project to date plans to open next week in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
"Isa, might be the last project that I’ll do in the city, and I feel like it might be the last restaurant I do."
He also speaks on the current cliché in design prevalent in restaurants from the East Village to Berlin.
“They all became so old-time-y and themed,” Mr. Somer said. “And all the people working in them were all like handlebar-mustached actors living in this set, and all the waitresses were all, like, with perfect dresses from the ’40s.” [NYTimes]
