La Peregrina eaten by dog
5. Elizabeth Taylor's La Peregrina pearl was eaten by her dog shortly after she received it. The pearl necklace, which fetched a record $11.8 million this past week at auction, was given to Taylor as a Valentine's Day gift from Richard Burton. About 20 minutes after she put it on, she lost it. It turns out her dog found it and ate it. Taylor put her hand in the dog's mouth and got the pearl back. The rest is history. [NYPost]
