Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending the Shop for a Cause event hosted by the Plaza Retail Collection benefiting Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Along with some very lucky guests, I got to preview the new shopping center in the revamped Plaza Hotel. I was very excited, to say the least. First off, what girl would pass up a shopping event? On top of which, this Eloise-loving girl was pretty excited to have a reason to go to the Plaza, not that I don’t love the Rose Club. Fashionistas and philanthropists alike arrived to commemorate the new complex.

The likes of Olivia Palermo (after her birthday dinner at Merkato 55 was filmed for The City ), Erin Fetherston, Katie Lee Joel, Ramona Singer, Meredith Melling Burke, Melissa Berkelhammer, Hana Soukupova, and Holly Dunlap arrived, credit cards in hand. The stores included a hot-pink lit up Kenneth Jay Lane, Vertu, Eton, Domenico Vacca, MCM, and Helen Yarmak to name a few.

I spent some time at the Yarmak boutique, her first in New York City. Anna Kildaze, who helps run the label in New York, sat down with me to relieve some of my inexperience with fur. I met Helen several months ago, and I was impressed with her clothing designs then, and her capabilities as a furrier are as impressive! As I watched, Olivia stared temptation in the face, murmuring to her friend how she could not even glance at the furs or she’d buy one.  I also got to see some of my favorite people such as Jackie Astier, David Chines, Nick Dietz, and Fabiola Beracasa, who graced the boutique-lined marble hallways, champagne in hand, mingling through the redesigned Grand Concourse. Overall, great night. I mean, shopping and champagne? If only every night started off this way…

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer is a philanthropic initiative of the Council of Fashion Designers of America/CFDA Foundation.  Proceeds from the evening, and opening week (October 22nd – October 29th), will benefit the initiative.
