The Top Trends From The 2012 MET Ball

by Natalie Decleve · May 8, 2012

Everyone loves a red carpet event. The opportunity to watch gorgeous people wear gorgeous things is intoxicating. But no red carpet is more important to true fashionphiles than the annual Met Ball in New York City. In support of the museum's famed costume department and rotating fashion exhibit, the gala is an opportunity for designers to stand in the spotlight alongside there "invited" starlets wearing their creations. This year's theme is "Impossible Conversations" honoring two legendary Italian designers, Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada.

Hosted by Vogue, the Met Ball is an event by the fashion elite for the fashion elite, and therefore the gowns and getups are generally the most exciting, creative and influential of the year. Trending at the event last night was a mashup of strong colors like fiery reds and yellows, solid bright white and shades of blue. Texture was a big story as well, with fringed numbers swinging alongside lots of sheer paneling and lace, while amped up metallics and mirrored pallets shone for the cameras.
