This small midtown shop below street level has a steady presence in the grilled cheese debate. (A Chelsea location was opened recently.) It's hard to choose the wrong sandwich. On the menu, a three cheese melt with aged Gruyere, Havarti, and crumbled goat cheese over oven roasted tomatoes; a truffle melt with Havarti, arugula, cracked black pepper on sourdough; and perhaps their best one, an aged cheddar with thick Vermont maple glazed bacon. Oh, and they have a home-made tomato soup for the classic dunk.
