Best thing about working with one another?
Pierre: We’re both very left-brain, right-brain people so it makes things a lot easier for both of us. Being a start-up company, we naturally each wear a lot of hats. However, because of the way in which we’re both wired, we’re able to discuss art, design, seasonal trends, e-commerce metrics, marketing strategy, and finances --- all in the same conversation.
Also, I think there’s something to be said for starting a company in your 40’s as opposed to starting one in your 20’s. At our age, we’re able to maturely discuss business matters without being overly impulsive, emotional, or reactive. We have a common goal of making Ivory Row a truly special brand that resonates deeply with our community of customers. Everything else is secondary.
Grace and I also share a lot of similar characteristics that make working together very easy. We’re both Korean-American. We’re both divorced. We both have kids. And we both have an unhealthy relationship with soup dumplings.
