How did this start? What was the goal?

I bought the building a year ago this month and knew it was a gem waiting to be polished. There was dropped ceilings and Formica everywhere...you couldn't see a brick or a piece of real wood....it was a Russian Doll of a renovation as a lot of it was getting the previous layers of the last century out of the way to expose the inherent beauty in the bones. From there I decided to build my dream house from the blank canvas. My dream house had an Adirondack Cabin in the back yard, it had an insanely cool hot tub with speakers and LED lights, it had garage doors on both ends that allowed me to stand in my open plan living area and see my tree in my front yard (with a porch) and my cabin in my backyard.....it would be my ranch in Brooklyn, my country in the city, my oasis. Then, amidst the coldest winter ever I had to get out of town and I took a surf trip to Nicaragua down to Maderas Village and was inspired by the personal bohemia they had built. The first day I was there someone asked me what I was doing with the building I was developing and it just came out, I said, "I'm opening a Bed and Breakfast" and the rest has been the most inspiring and amazing journey of my career. It was the first time I was creative...and my goal is for people to arrive at my home as strangers and leave as friends.
