The Smile
Matt and Carlos’ office is oftentimes the Smile. The duo move effortlessly from meetings involving everything from their graphic designer dropping off files to their chef “the boss” Melia Marden discussing her new methods of food preservation, to a DJ throwing a party at the Jane that Wednesday, to James Cruickshank (who, along with Lyz Olko is the director of nightlife).
You guys are very serious day- time workers.
Matt: “I think that having the day/night duality is a really good thing. We met strictly night people and they’re a different breed and that day/night duality I think is something that makes us unique."
Do you think it keeps you grounded?
Matt: “Totally. Not just that – we take great joy in saying hi to people and hanging out in the day, making coffee. I don’t want to wake up at 6’oclock in the afternoon."
