The magazine has launched a few events since 2005, including the Northside Music Festival. What was it like creating these new forums for artists?
SummerScreen was our first large-scale event, and it just seemed like a perfect community event for the McCarren Pool. Our first film in the pool was "Do The Right Thing" and we were getting thousands of people to our first screenings - It was an amazing time for Williamsburg and all of Brooklyn - And we're still doing it, and heading into it's 8th year.
Northside was a light bulb that went off in my brother Scotty's head, and everyone at the company joined in a rousing chorus of "YES"! It's now in it's fifth year, and growing. We still work with most of the same groups and showcases that helped make our very first year a success. Now, it's grown from a music festival to a huge discovery festival with film, music, art and a huge Entrepreneurship + Technology Expo that we called NExT.
