What kind of impact did you expect the magazine to have when you first launched it? We were incredibly confident that we would be profitable right out of the gate, which was a little naive. It took us a long time to get on our feet. In fact, we thought we'd be breaking even on classified ads alone (and we've never in our ten years sold a single classified ad). We had to learn that the old newspaper model didn't apply to us. Once we came to this understanding, it's allowed us to move forward in a lot of new, exciting directions. [Photo via]
