As a writer, where do you draw your inspiration?
Kristopher Knight: From being a kid that no one ever liked unless I made a joke. That’s where all the comedy comes from. From being the kid that got beat up. In terms of this comedy, just the nature of being with your best friends. You say things around them that you don’t around anyone else. There are fronts about yourself that you put down when you're around your friends, and for me, it's just about exposing those elements while everyone else watches. The other draw was seeing them in real life. Some days, Carson would come along with things that annoyed him, and it would literally become the episode. Always drawing from real life, but also drawing from things that you would otherwise not think about anymore, irreverent information. Carson: This city is hilarious though. It doesn’t take intellect to see something and think that’s either crazy or hilarious or both. Chris: Carson is a guy that goes everywhere, and I'm a guy that stays in Manhattan, and they make fun of me! NN: I live in Harlem. Chris thinks I live in Connecticut. Writer: That's what's so interesting - that these two guys have these completely different bubbles that they live in, and there are regular everyday things Carson does that open up Chris' eyes completely. I definitely identify more with Carson's end of things. Chris: I think that how the birth of this really started was one of my dogs died and the other is old now, so I took him to a dog psychic. Carson: This is after the acupuncturist! And a chiropractor! Chris: They laughed for a whole day. [Kristopher Knight]
