Interview With Derek Blasberg - In Between Tweets

by DOUGLAS MARSHALL · September 22, 2009

There are two distinct people you probably saw a lot during Fashion Week who are as synonymous to parties as they are to fashion - Byrdie Bell and Derek Blasberg. They are arguably everywhere and when I say everywhere, I found them camped on a couch in the back of the new Tommy Hilfiger store on the night of it’s opening party. Everyone else was fleeing the store for the next show/event and these two were just hanging. Dead tired from all Fashion Week had to offer but still going strong, I was able to catch up with them. Below, my interview with Derek, who is currently in London for their Fashion Week, tweeting up a storm! Go follow @dizzyblazeberg on Twitter, and come back for Byrdie tomorrow!

[Daily Style Phile: Derek Blasberg, This Is How They're Bred In The Midwest]

You edited the book Influence by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen on Fashion and Art. How has that changed your life or perspective on things by getting to work with them? That was their book so I often feel weird commenting on their achievement. Those girls are great and it was a joy to work with them. I think they are rad. I’d imagine having your name on the cover of a book with the Olsen twins at such a young age is a pretty big accomplishment? Yeah. Yeah. They are really smart. I think a lot of people think because they started so young a lot of their success happened by chance – that they were just identical twins at the right place and the right time. But now even what they are doing with the clothing line is proving that there is something special about them. They have skillz. (pronounced as it is spelled) You’re a pretty popular guy. Have you ever had to crash a party. Ohhhhhh I’ve always…well, not as much as I used to. What’s one party crashing tip that you have? Not that you are advocating it? I don’t know if I really have a tip. It’s been so long I’ve forgotten….
