Why: Early on, Vampire Weekend was imprecisely branded a prep-rock band whose education nearly overshadowed their music. Three albums in, and the band has fully emerged as one of the most distinctive and venerable acts in the world. Their last album was applauded for its depth and fluidity, but more than anything else, their live shows are tremendously fun.
