That New Year's Kiss signifies starting the New Year with someone special, hoping that your relationship or friendship will last. Tradition does call for a kiss once the clock strikes twelve, but do you really want to start the New Year with someone you met an hour before that might only be cute because of how much champagne you had? That kiss won't mean anything to you, and the instant gratification of not being the only one at the party without a midnight kiss will fade into completely unmemorable.
