Cabin Down Below

Cabin Down Below
When you think of speakeasy type bars in the East Village you automatically think of Death & Co. or PDT. However there is one that is sometimes overlooked, which is Cabin Down Below. Right below the burger joint Black Market, Cabin Down Below is a simple bar that looks to serve well made cocktails and cheap (by Manhattan standards) beer. Sitting by the fireplace is a great option or you can choose the booth in the back room if you really like your privacy. And since this is a speakeasy, it’s simply not going to be easy to get into either. After walking through the gate and down the stairs, you will meet a doorman by a booth. If he says yes, you will go around the booth and into Cabin Down Below. If he says no (or more specifically “it’s a private party), you are more than welcome to have a drink at the very cramped yet charming bar next door.

Recommended Drink: Old Fashioned or a Blue Moon
