Slide #5

Sometimes people forget that nightlife is a business. It’s a big risk to book a DJ of this caliber for a small venue. These mega DJs are not cheap and can cost $20 to $50 grand a show. In addition to paying the staff, extra security to manage crowds and basic overhead, you’d need to generate a huge sum of money just to break even. It’s 2:30 AM and Tiesto is killing it. Just as the bass line hits, he throws up his hands and the crowd goes crazy. The crowd, mainly composed of beautiful women, has continued to grow and the dance floor is mobbed. I feel like I am in a mosh pit at a rave. However, aside from some shoving here and there, everyone continues to be extremely ecstatic rocking out to the DJ’s electronic beats. I look around the room and see many of the party girls I go out with sprinkled at different tables. Go-go dancers in elaborate futuristic costumes dance dramatically on platforms around me. A fog machines blasts a huge plume of mist that engulfs the crowd. I’m having a great time but I know Tiesto’s time is up soon. I head to coat check to grab my coat before he wraps up and everyone else gets the same idea. It was one of the better nights out I’ve had in a while The group behind LAVO pulled off a night that most venues wouldn’t even risk attempting. They did it with style, precision, and extreme attention to detail. I hope more venues follow their lead and continue to book the top DJ talents.
