Roxy

This spot opened up in 1978 as a roller rink but swiftly converted into a wheel-less dance club in the face of skating's dwindling popularity. From then on, the club hosted hip hop battles, graffitti murals, double dutch competitions, and celebrity musicians like Madonna and Run DMC. Most notably, tons of musicians came to Roxy to try out their "dance floor tests" of new music. The crowd that frequented this spot was actively and verbally quite discerning.
