For The History Buff: McSorley's Old Ale House
Established in 1854, McSorely's Old Ale House is one of NYC's oldest drinking establishments. It's been visited by the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and poet e.e. cummings who wrote
'i was sitting in mcsorley's' while sipping a mug of their home brewed ale.
An order of ale gets you two mini mugs of light or dark, and groups usually order them by the dozens. Check out the walls covered in NYC memorabilia, and make sure to look up at the chandelier. Turkey wishbones were put up on the chandelier by young men who were being shipped off to World War 1. Previously a men's only bar, McSorley's officially started letting women in in 1970.
