It's been a sad day for lovers of Old New York since the news broke of Ziegfeld Theater's impending shuttering to become solely an event hall. The original haunt, built in 1927 by Florenz Ziegfeld, was a glamorous hot spot for the city's social elite, where the famed Ziegfeld Follies performed throughout the jazz age. Since the cinema opened in 1969, it's played host to Hollywood premieres and parties frequented by A-listers. According to the New York Times, the renamed ballroom space will open in the fall of 2017. Click through for some throwback moments through the years.
