If you’re really looking to get some action, check out New York’s Botanical garden, open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Thain Family Forest in particular is an inexpensive way to see the amazing colors of fall’s foliage without having to leave the city. Walk along old Native American trails, check out a bird watch or canoe trip, and end the day at one of the park’s two cafes.
