Mole People

Mole People
It was thought to be a myth that in abandoned train tunnels under New York City there were men and women living known as "mole people." According to this story homeless people descended below the city and formed societies of their own and were prospering more than they could above ground. The story was thought to be untrue until 1993 when Jennifer Toth released a book depicting the lives of "mole people." After research and networking, she discovered the myth to indeed be true. Since then many have been cleared out of the tunnels but few still live beneath our feet. [Photo via]
