Host Patton Oswalt set the tone for the evening with a blend of his heralded comedic timing and mastery of all things Internet. The Webbys are known for their tradition of only allowing winners to accept with 5-Word Speeches. Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, while accepting The Webby Special Achievement Award for Netflix’s House of Cards, proclaimed in their 5-Word Speech, “The Oscars Should Do This!” Tumblr founder David Karp was one of the most highly anticipated guests of the evening, especially on the heels of the recent Yahoo! acquisition. Attendees were eager to snap photos with the 26-year-old entrepreneur and his guest: his mom. When Karp was on-stage to present, Patton took the opportunity to jokingly rifle through Karp’s back pockets, presumably in search of a small piece of his newly found fortune.
