As guests arrived, they were treated to Veuve Cliquot, delectable bites, and music by DJ Harley Viera-Newton. British singer Paloma Faith then took center stage to perform 3 soulful songs, which were followed by opening remarks from hosts Tina Brown and Diane von Furstenberg. The presenters included Gabrielle Douglas, Gloria Steinem, Olivia Wilde, Gayle King, and Diane herself. The winners all described their causes, and the audience was visibly moved by their stories. Vital Voices Global Partnership winner Sunitha Krishnan expressed the hardships women in India face, and used the opportunity to make a call for action, while Lifetime Leadership winner Robin Roberts gave a humorous but poignant speech on her battle with cancer and MDS. The winners also received a $50,000 grant from the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation to put towards their organizations.
