Tournesol
Tournesol is a charming French bistro on LIC's main strip, Vernon Blvd., I discovered many a year ago.
Every experience I've had at this brasserie has been fantastic, from the food to the service.
Their extensive menu, think typical French fare like sauteed escargots in tarragon butter, beef bourguignon, and steak frites with bearnaise sauce, makes up for their lack of dining space- occasionally tables will have to be moved in order for you to get into the booth- but really, it adds to the charm.
Much like the old fashioned red car permanently parked out front, owner Pascal Escriout, former maître d’ of Artisanal, and his mostly French wait-staff are, for lack of a better word, downright cute.
In an area some believe lacks culture, Tournesol proves you dead-wrong with an authentic French atmosphere that rivals the Left Bank.
